When I was ten years old, Pete Seegar came to play at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. It was the first live musical event I attended. The concert made a big impression because I went home and asked my parents for a guitar and lessons. I was going to play folk music. In high school, we were electrified by the British invasion. I went for the Rolling Stones and just wanted to be in a rock n’ roll band for the rest of my life. I played bass in several Rock and Blues bands through college, in Wisconsin and upon graduating, went to music school in Boston for several years.
Needing to earn a living, I went to work for ABC News in New York for twenty-five years, but kept playing bass in several bands including a stint at CBGBs. Upon retiring, I moved to Chicago and played guitar for harmonica classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music and saw great Bluegrass bands that came up from Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina. I moved to the Woods in California in 2020 and found some like-minded souls and together we launched Salt Creek.
